Pride for Odisha: Odia Scientist Soumya Joins HIV Vaccine Production Team

Baleshwar, 25th Oct 2025:  Soumya, an Odia boy from Baleshwar, has brought pride to Odisha by being appointed to work in the field of HIV vaccine production. Soumya is currently pursuing his Ph.D. at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in the USA. He is the son of Monalisa De and Subrat Kumar De, residents of Suelpur in the city.

After completing his B.Sc. and M.Sc., Soumya initially joined the University of Northern Illinois in the USA as a researcher. According to Soumya, the newly developed HIV vaccine is currently in the testing phase. It is being tested on mice, and soon it will be tested on monkeys. If successful, the vaccine will eventually be used in humans.

Soumya also stated that he is working on developing vaccines for HIV, Parkinson’s disease, and prostate cancer. After successfully completing his research, he plans to return to India. His goal is to work in a pharmaceutical company to help improve healthcare in the country.
