Preparatory Meeting Held in Malkangiri Ahead of Bada Yatra from March 15

Malkangiri , Feb, 23: A preparatory meeting has been held for the famous Bada Yatra festival dedicated to the revered deities of Malkangiri district — Kakanam Raj, Baliraj, Potaraj, and Maa Mutyalamma.

The meeting was organized at the Durga Mandap in the block headquarters in the presence of members of the Bada Yatra Committee of Padia Block and local residents. During the meeting, a detailed review of the expenditures incurred during last year’s Bada Yatra was conducted.

It was decided that this year’s Bada Yatra will be held on March 15. Ten days prior to the festival, the traditional ritual of bringing sacred bamboo for the deity and installing a new bamboo structure will be performed.
Invitations will be sent to the deities of 24 villages, and the festival will be conducted following traditional customs with the cooperation of village heads, community leaders (Shira), and priests.

Detailed discussions were also held regarding the cultural programs to be organized during the upcoming festival, proper hospitality arrangements, and accommodation facilities for the visiting village deities.

During the meeting, Satyanarayan Majhi was nominated as the President of the Bada Yatra Committee, and a management committee was formed. The meeting was conducted by Korapu Chandraya. Among those present were P. Venkateswara Rao, Naka Nukal Raju, local Sarpanch Ganga Karam, Shira Committee President Mohan Bahadur, Kotam Balaya, K. Bhaskar, Chinama Rabid, Ramachandra Majhi, and around 250 local residents.
