Preparatory Meeting for Shaheed Smruti Divas 2025 Held at Papadahandi

Nabarangpur,23rd Aug 2025:  A preparatory meeting for the upcoming Shaheed Smruti Divas (Martyrs’ Memorial Day) 2025, to be observed on 24th August, was held today at the Papadahandi Panchayat Samiti Hall under the chairmanship of District Collector Dr. Maheshwar Swain.

Among those present on the dais were Zilla Parishad Chairperson Motiram Nayak, former MP Parshuram Majhi, former MLA Bhujabal Majhi, School & Mass Education Minister’s representative Lingaraj Bhatra, Nabarangpur MLA’s representative Kahnu Das, MP’s representative Somanath Pujari, Dabugaon MLA’s representative Rajanikant Sasmol, Block Chairperson Hemalata Majhi, and Block Vice-Chairperson Sushant Kumar Behera.

The meeting began with BDO Kapildeb Sahu welcoming all and seeking cooperation for the successful observance of the historic day. BPC Shashikant Das presented the agenda and conducted the proceedings.

Key discussions focused on cleaning and decorating Gandhi Park and Shaheed Minar premises, invitation of Chief Guest and other dignitaries, organizing a torchlight procession, inviting families of martyrs and freedom fighters, people’s representatives, media, government and private officials, and distinguished personalities of the district. Plans were made for felicitation of freedom fighters and families of martyrs, floral tributes, all-religion prayer meeting, extensive publicity, provision of drinking water, fire safety, parking, and traffic regulation.

It was informed that the State Government has already sanctioned ₹6 crore for the construction of a grand Shaheed Memorial. The Collector instructed officials to ensure Papadahandi block, town, market, and adjoining National Highway areas are cleaned, beautified, and kept plastic-free ahead of the program. He sought cooperation from all stakeholders for the grand success of the event.

Former MP Parshuram Majhi appreciated the State Government’s recognition of Shaheed Smruti Divas and sanction of funds for the memorial, calling for people to celebrate the day beyond barriers of caste, religion, and politics.

State Shaheed Smruti Committee Working President Manoranjan Tripathy said the commemoration is a true tribute to the freedom fighters and martyrs of the district and has given Nabarangpur national recognition. He urged for the participation of all ex-MPs, ex-MLAs, and people’s representatives as guests of honor.

The meeting saw participation from District Bar Association President & Freedom Fighters’ Memorial Committee Chairperson Sirajuddin Ahmad, senior leaders Hari Narayan Choudhury, A. Anant Murthy, Trinath Amanatya, Jagannath Mohapatra, along with engineers, officials of Works and Housing, project administrators, officers of SC & ST Development Department, District Information & Public Relations Officer, Tahsildar of Papadahandi, District Culture Officer, Panchayat members, Smruti Committee members, and eminent citizens of Papadahandi block.
