Poor Road Conditions Persist in Apsgaon, Administration Silent

Jeypore, 24th Sept 2025: The condition of the road in Ward No. 6 of Apsgaon under Murvahandi Panchayat, Kotpad Block, Koraput District, has deteriorated to a miserable state. During the rainy season, the villagers of Apsgaon are facing severe difficulties due to the poor state of the road.

According to locals, a few years ago, a drinking water pipeline was laid by the Drinking Water Project Department, for which the road was dug up. Although the pipeline work was completed, the department failed to properly restore the road, only covering it with soil, forgetting any permanent repairs.

As a result, water accumulates in the ditches during rain, creating pools and potholes, which have led to frequent accidents. Despite this being a daily route for children commuting to school, no action has been taken to improve it.

Adding to the community’s woes, the drainage system has not been cleaned for years. Even after repeated complaints by locals and Ward No. 6 residents to officials and public representatives, no action has been taken.

Villagers claim that although funds are sanctioned annually for drain cleaning by the panchayat, no such work has been carried out in years. They further allege that officials are misappropriating the government funds meant for this purpose.

It remains to be seen whether the administration will act after this issue is highlighted in the media or continue to remain a silent spectator despite being fully aware of the situation.
