Jeypore,29th Oct 2025: Koraput coffee has established its unique identity on the global stage. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appreciated the taste and cultivation of Koraput coffee during his “Mann Ki Baat” program. According to farmers, this recognition will encourage coffee cultivation in Koraput in the coming days.
Koraput coffee has carved its own identity internationally. Modi praised Koraput coffee during his “Mann Ki Baat” program, calling it extremely delicious and a matter of pride for Odisha. He cited several examples of people who left their jobs, gave up large salaries, and achieved success by cultivating coffee in Koraput.
Farmers say that decision to take up coffee cultivation was absolutely correct. By cultivating coffee, they not only gain an independent identity but also provide employment to 40–50 local women, giving them a sense of self-satisfaction, say the women farmers.
The climate of Koraput district is very favorable for coffee cultivation, and the government is promoting widespread coffee farming in the district. Tribal farmers are being encouraged to become self-reliant through coffee cultivation. Earlier, only small-scale coffee cultivation was done in the district; now, it is being done on a larger scale.
Currently, around 5,000 hectares in the district are under coffee cultivation, and the district administration aims to increase this to 10,000 hectares. The unique taste of Koraput coffee is attracting tourists from far and wide who come to enjoy it. Modi’s appreciation of Koraput coffee during the “Mann Ki Baat” program has boosted farmers’ enthusiasm. Farmers have expressed their interest in increasing coffee cultivation further in the future.
After PM Modi praised the taste of Koraput coffee in his “Mann Ki Baat” program, there has been increased interest among coffee farmers in Koraput district. It is expected that more coffee cultivation will take place in the district in the coming days.
