Malkangiri, Jan, 17:  A “Vande Mataram” programme was organised today at the Korukonda Block Office in Malkangiri district. On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the national song Vande Mataram, written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, this special programme is being observed across the country. Marking the occasion, the event was held in the premises of the Korukonda Block Office.

The programme was conducted under the chairmanship of Korukonda Block BDO Amulya Kumar Sahu. Among the dignitaries present were Korukonda Block Chairman Jitu Burudi, Block Education Officer Asit Mishra, MP’s representative Akshay Swain, Malkangiri MLA’s representative Munya Madkami, Chitrakonda MLA’s representative Binayak Patra, Korukonda LAMPS Chairman Salu Khol, Samiti member Parshuram Khemundu, and others.

The programme began with the offering of floral tributes and prayers before Lord Jagannath by the dignitaries present. Thereafter, the event formally commenced. Along with the guests, a large number of people stood together and sang Vande Mataram. At the same time, a video of the national song was screened through an LED display.
Various discussions were held on the significance of the national song. Students who had participated and achieved distinction in debates and quiz competitions organised earlier in local schools were honoured with prizes by the guests.

Arrangements for lunch were made at noon, and after the meal, the participants dispersed and returned to their respective homes.
