Nandapur, 31st Oct 2025: : Due to heavy rainfall caused by cyclone Montha, large boulders fell from the hills late Tuesday night onto the railway tracks between Chimidipali and Bora Guhalu stations. This affected train operations on the Kirandul–Koraput–Kotwalasa route, particularly for freight trains.
The soil and rocks that had blocked the railway tunnel were cleared on Wednesday. By Wednesday afternoon, freight train movement resumed normally. All passenger trains that had been canceled due to the storm for three days will start running from Thursday, according to the railway department.
Reports indicate that due to landslides caused by heavy rainfall, boulders fell on the railway track between Chimidipali and Bora Guhalu stations (km 117 to km 125) late Tuesday night. Water also flowed over the tracks, forcing suspension of rail operations on the Kirandul–Koraput–Kotwalasa route and halting freight trains.
Rescue teams reached the site and started clearing operations. Rocks and soil blocking the tracks were removed, and the railway line was repaired. By Wednesday afternoon, freight train operations resumed normally. Passenger trains between Visakhapatnam and Kirandul, which had been canceled for three days due to the cyclone, will also resume service from Thursday.
