Papdahandi, 11th Nov 2025: The severe cold has gripped Papdahandi block and Maidalpur region in Nabarangpur district. For the past four to five days, the intense chill has disrupted normal life in these areas. After 4 PM, people are finding it difficult to step outside their homes. The biting cold has made it hard for locals to go outdoors, especially in forest-surrounded villages where the cold is even harsher.
At present, the people of Papdahandi and Maidalpur are experiencing an intense winter. The forests and hills have turned scenic in the chill. Even during the day, the horizon is barely visible due to fog. From the hilltops, small waterfalls are gently flowing down, resembling a shy maiden descending gracefully — it seems as if the whole region is wrapped in a blanket of winter.
However, despite the cold, daily life continues mostly unaffected. Across various parts of Nabarangpur district, winter has fully set in. The cold has tightened its grip on Papdahandi and Maidalpur, making it difficult for people to leave their homes.
During this season, while tourists flock to enjoy the beauty of the hilly landscape, the local tribal communities remain busy with their livelihood activities. They harvest crops like paddy, maize, ragi (finger millet), black gram, and various vegetables during this time. After harvesting, preparations begin for winter crop cultivation — the season that brings them a good source of income.
On chilly mornings, families gather in their fields to thresh the harvested grains. The lifestyle of the tribal people in the Maidalpur region is somewhat distinct from others. Despite the hardships of the cold, people here are seen enjoying the winter in their own way. Ordinary winter clothes are often not enough to protect against the chill. Elderly residents have requested the administration to provide warm clothing.
In the villages of Maidalpur, people can be seen lighting fires in the mornings and evenings to keep themselves warm and shield against the intense cold.
