Papdahandi A meeting was held in the conference hall of the Papdahandi Block Office regarding the renovation and beautification of the Shaheed Minar. The meeting was chaired by District Collector Dr. Shubankar Mohapatra, with School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond as the chief guest. Other dignitaries present included Dabugam MLA Manohar Randhari, Nabarangpur MLA Gaurishankar Majhi, former MP Parshuram Majhi, Block Chairperson Hemalata Majhi, MP representative Somanath Pujari, and Shaheed Smruti Committee Chairman Manoranjan Tripathy, among others.
District Collector Dr. Mohapatra informed that Rs. 6 crores has been sanctioned by the State Government for the development of the Shaheed Minar. A presentation was given through a projector showcasing the proposed design of the new structure. Plans include installing statues of martyrs, a martyr column, guest house, and park.
Currently, the Shaheed Minar is located along the Turi riverbank, but due to the construction of a new bridge, it has become invisible from the main road. Additionally, riverbank erosion has left insufficient space for expansion. Hence, a proposal was unanimously passed to construct the monument at a new location.
The local Tahasildar Tapan Nayak was directed to identify 5 acres of land for the purpose.
On the other hand, Minister Gond stated that he had earlier decided to undertake development work at the Shaheed Minar on Martyrs’ Day. He had discussed the matter with the District Collector and submitted a proposal to the State Government. He also personally met Deputy Chief Minister Prabhati Parida and made a formal request for the same. Following this, the Deputy CM promptly approved a fund of Rs. 6 crores.
Instructions have been given to immediately begin the construction work, and if additional funds are required, another proposal will be sent to the State Government, said the Minister. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks from Manoranjan Tripathy.
Other attendees included Block Vice-Chairperson Sushanta Behera, MLA Representative Rajani Shasmal, BDO Manoj Kumar Panigrahi, Harimohan Sharma, P. Venkata Rao, Dinabandhu Bishoyi, and Manoj Agrawal.
