Jeypore, 15th Nov 2025:  The residents of Charangul Gram Panchayat in Semiliguda block of Koraput district have strongly opposed the proposal to bring their panchayat under the Notified Area Council (NAC) and approached the District Collector to register their protest.

According to Sarpanch Phulmati Pujari, the state administration had proposed to the government that Charangul Panchayat be included in the Notified Area Council. However, the residents, who mostly belong to the economically weaker sections and primarily depend on agriculture for their livelihood, fear that inclusion in the NAC will deprive them of certain benefits and facilities currently available to them in the panchayat.

The villagers expressed their desire to remain under the panchayat system rather than being shifted to the NAC. During the meeting with the District Collector, they also discussed various local issues affecting the panchayat.

The demand letter was submitted to the District Collector, Manoj Satyawan Mahajan, in the presence of social worker Ramil Kuldeep, former sarpanch Shekhar Inding, Padma Sudam Kuldeep, Muduli, Ranjit Kuldeep, Bhakta Goud, Ram Bishoyi, Ram Inding, Basudeb Pujari, and other local representatives and panchayat residents.
