Malakangiri, 22nd July 2025: A no-confidence motion against Yamuna Mushaki, the Chairperson of Podia Block in Malkangiri district, was conducted on Wednesday at the Panchayat Samiti office hall. A total of 16 members, including Sarpanches and Samiti members from 8 panchayats under the block, participated in the voting process to elect a new chairperson.
Out of 16 votes, 15 were cast against Yamuna Mushaki, leading to her removal from office. Previously affiliated with the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Mushaki was accused of neglecting developmental work during her tenure and ignoring party workers, which triggered dissatisfaction among elected representatives.
Despite directions from BJD block-level leaders to consider party workers’ opinions and improve functioning, she continued to act independently and arbitrarily. As a result, Sarpanches and Samiti members from all 8 panchayats, supported by BJD workers, submitted a written no-confidence proposal to the Sub-Collector on 10/06/2025.
However, even after more than one and a half months, the administration took no action, prompting renewed demands from public representatives. Responding to this, the Sub-Collector’s office issued letter no. 3013/25 on June 17, announcing that a fresh meeting and re-election would be held on 2nd of the current month.
The no-confidence motion had been temporarily postponed earlier due to a statewide strike by the OAS Association protesting an attack on the BMC Additional Commissioner.
The presiding officer for the vote was Motu Tehsildar Ramakrishna Satyaguru, assisted by officials including BDO Ashwini Kumar Mohapatra, Korakonda ABDO Shankarshan Khandual, Kalimela Section Officer Gokul Biswas, and GPDO Jagannath Mandal.
Present at the event were several key BJD leaders and workers, including BJD Podia Block President Chinam Rabit, Vice President Subhash Bhumika, Block Vice-Chairman Kalyan Biswas, District BJD Executive President Durgaprasad Tripathy, and Senior Leader Prabhakar Hantal, among others.
