Nabarangpur,17th Nov 2025:  The kharif paddy harvest has begun across Nabarangpur district. However, due to the unavailability of agricultural labourers and harvesting machines (pressure threshers), farmers are facing difficulties in harvesting their crops. Meanwhile, the date for opening the kharif paddy procurement mandis in the district has not yet been announced.

This year, kharif paddy has been cultivated over 4,000 hectares in the district. According to District Supply Officer Debashish Mohanty, 50,918 farmers have registered to sell their produce at 59 mandis through 13 LAMPS, 44 SHGs, and 2 Pani Panchayats.

  • 22,221 farmers registered through the 13 LAMPS
  • 26,515 farmers through the 44 SHGs
  • 2,182 farmers through the two Pani Panchayats

After satellite verification, suspicious plots are being identified. These plots will be jointly inspected by the District-level Committee and the Odisha Paddy Land Survey (OPLS). Any suspicious plots will be removed from farmer registration. Based on this, the P-PAS (Paddy Procurement Automation System) pass will be generated for each eligible farmer. After this, farmers will receive tokens for selling paddy.

On the other hand, even though harvesting has started, photos of empty plots are also appearing. During field visits, the joint committee will again upload photos for verification, said District Chief Agriculture Officer Sudhiranjan Behera.

He also mentioned that two types of pressure machines have been provided in the district for harvesting paddy.
