Nandapur: A major mishap was averted on Friday involving the Visakhapatnam–Kirandul passenger train (58538) running on the electrified Kotavalasa–Kirandul (KK) rail line. About 2 km from Bheja station, while crossing a nearby village, the train encountered a fallen electric power line connected to the rail track’s power supply.
Due to the snapping of wires from around 10 electric poles, the train—powered by electricity—came to a halt. Fortunately, the electric wires had not come into direct contact with the train or the tracks, preventing a serious accident.
As of the latest reports, the passenger train remains stranded near the location. Passengers were seen leaving the train and proceeding to their destinations on foot. Railway officials from Bheja, Padua, Machkund, and Koraput stations rushed to the spot and have initiated repair work.
The train had been stranded since around 12 noon, causing much inconvenience to passengers. According to railway sources, once the wires are reconnected and repairs completed, the train will resume its journey towards Kirandul, and normal rail services on the route will be restored.
Several other trains on this route were also held up at various stations due to the incident.
