OSTTA Protest Escalates as Teachers Demand Pension Rights and Grant Suppo

Chitrada, 31st July 2025: A powerful convention of the Odisha School and College Teachers and Employees Coordination Committee (OSSTA) was held today at Jawahar Government High School in Chitrada. The meeting was presided over by Block Permanent Chairman Muralidhar Barik.

Kishore Kumar Acharya, the district secretary of OSSTA, joined as chief guest and strongly criticized the government’s “anti-teacher policies.” He emphasized that thousands of teachers and education staff have been working for years without salary or pension benefits. The association reiterated the following key demands:

Immediate grant-in-aid for teachers and education workers who served long periods without pay

Pension for teachers who retired without pension

Counting of the first six years of service for government school teachers as part of regular employment

Rectification of discrepancies in grade pay

The speakers warned that teachers and employees will intensify their agitation if these demands are not met.

As per the resolution of the state organization, the following protest actions have been scheduled:

August 2: Submission of demand letter to Block Education Officers (BEOs)

August 8: Sit-in demonstration at the District Collector’s office

August 16: State-level protest meeting and submission of memorandum in Bhubaneswar

The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks from teacher Gopal Chandra Jena.
