Bhubaneswar, 7th Nov 2025: The Odisha Secondary School Teachers’ Association (OSSTA) has demanded that the state government provide grants to eligible schools that are currently deprived of them, implement the 7th Pay Commission salary structure, ensure immediate pension benefits after retirement, and bring newly aided and fully aided schools under government control.
In a press release issued by OSSTA, it was stated that although the government has repeatedly promised to fulfill teachers’ demands such as job regularization and post-retirement benefits, these promises have not been honored. While the government considers the concerns of other categories of employees, teachers continue to face neglect and injustice, the association alleged.
OSSTA further demanded that the grade pay discrepancies among teachers be corrected, and that Hindi and Sanskrit teachers be paid salaries according to their qualifications. It also urged the government to regularize the services of alleged and section teachers, and to fill vacant teacher and headmaster posts immediately.
Other key demands include:
- Implementation of the RA scheme,
- Higher pay scales for physical education teachers with B.P.Ed and C.P.Ed qualifications,
- Raising the retirement age from 60 to 62 years,
- Promotions for office assistants based on qualification and service, and
- Grant-in-aid for Urdu teachers.
The association also requested that contract teachers appointed between 2004 and 2013 be given six notional increments and brought under the Old Pension Scheme.
These demands were jointly presented by OSSTA President Akshay Kumar Mishra, Working President Neelamani Purohit, General Secretary Ranjan Kumar Dash, Joint General Secretary Braja Kishore Biswal, Treasurer Ashok Kumar Mahapatra, and Education Pradeep Editor Shankar Kumar Subudhi, among others.
