Korukonda , Dec, 29: Incidents of illegal vehicle movement have been increasing day by day in Balimela town and its surrounding areas of Malkangiri district, leading to a rise in road accidents. To curb this trend, a special vehicle-checking drive was conducted on Friday by the Orkel Police.
Acting on the directions of Orkel Police Station Officer Duren Patnaik, a special police team led by ASI Sanjit Kumar Takri carried out the checking. The drive was conducted near Chitrakonda Chhak, about 3 kilometers from Balimela town, on the main road connecting Balimela and Jeypore via Chitrakonda.
During the drive, police personnel checked motorcycles and other vehicles passing through the route. The checks included driving licenses, helmets, seat belts, and all necessary vehicle documents. Riders who were found not wearing helmets, not using seat belts, or not carrying valid licenses were counseled about the Motor Vehicles Act and various traffic rules framed by the government’s Transport Department.
The police advised all drivers and riders to always follow traffic rules and drive responsibly to avoid accidents and legal action.
Police officers and staff, along with personnel from the IRB Battalion, were present during the checking operation.
