New Delhi, Nov 24: The Aadhaar card will no longer look the same in the future. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is considering making changes to it. Currently, Aadhaar cards display personal details such as name, address, and photo. Because of this, there are concerns about misuse, as Aadhaar is often used as an identity document in many places, and copies of it are kept. This creates a risk to the privacy of personal information.
To solve this problem, UIDAI is considering developing a QR code–based Aadhaar card. In the new type of card, only the person’s photo and a QR code will be present. All personal information, such as name, address, and phone number, will be contained within the QR code.
This will prevent illegal offline verification practices carried out by hotels, event organizers, and various institutions. From the upcoming December, UIDAI will introduce new rules to implement this change. UIDAI believes that if the card no longer prints name, address, or phone number, the risk of information exposure will be eliminated.
Although there are strict laws for the collection, storage, and dissemination of Aadhaar data, it is still widely misused offline. With information stored in a QR code, no one will be able to access it offline. Everything will be done online, ensuring Aadhaar is used only for authentication and not as a document.
From the first of December, the new Aadhaar app will allow digital authentication. The new app will enable QR code–based authentication and face recognition–based authentication.
