New Delhi, Jan, 08: People in Dubai will now get to taste garlic and French beans grown by farmers of Odisha. Besides garlic and French beans, they will also enjoy other green vegetables from Odisha such as pointed gourd (potala), papaya, and potatoes.
Last Wednesday, farmers from Kalahandi and Nabarangpur districts of Odisha successfully exported 1,000 kilograms (one tonne) of fresh horticultural produce to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates from the Biju Patnaik International Airport, Bhubaneswar.
Additional Director of the Horticulture Department, Kunj Bihari Mishra, said that earlier farmers used to sell their produce only in local markets. Now, they are able to export their products at better prices and earn higher profits.
This initiative was implemented under the Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) Promotion Project, executed by Palladium Consulting India Private Limited for the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment. The initiative was carried out with the support of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and with backing from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
It has been informed that in the coming days, more agricultural products from Odisha will be exported in larger quantities to foreign markets.
