Old Girls’ Hostel Set to Reopen with Capacity for 100 Boarders

Jeypore, 12th Aug 2025:The government women’s college’s old girls’ hostel will reopen very soon and be fully functional by the last week of August. The hostel can accommodate 100 students from the combined 2nd year, 3rd year, and postgraduate courses. The admission application process has been fast-tracked. According to Principal Dr. Vivekananda Suna, after the official notification, students will be able to submit their forms.

Chairman Mr. Suna stated that behind the college building there is a special 100-bed girls’ hostel constructed by ITDA (Integrated Tribal Development Agency). Due to its dilapidated condition, students had not been allowed to stay there for some years. After repeated complaints, the administration has carried out repairs and painting work. To prevent water leakage, a tin shed has been placed over the roof. All rooms have been tiled with flooring.

Facilities such as rooms, toilets, kitchens, and dining halls are being repaired to accommodate students comfortably. Drinking water supply is now regular and functioning normally. CCTV cameras will be installed on the premises. A superintendent, matron, and security personnel will be appointed.

Apart from this, a newly constructed two-storey hostel building funded by OHEPEE (Odisha Higher Education Program for Excellence and Equity Project) has been built on the college campus at a cost of about ₹1.5 crore. This hostel can accommodate 52 students.

It is noted that in 2015, ITDA constructed this 100-bed special hostel behind the college main building at a cost of nearly ₹45 lakh. The hostel was handed over to the college in 2016, but by the academic year 2017-18 only a few students were residing there. Due to water leakage from the roof and various other issues, the college authorities did not permit students to stay there.

After repeated complaints, ITDA spent nearly ₹5 lakh on repairs. Renovation work resumed after the removal of election restrictions and continued throughout the year.
