Bhubaneswar, 1st Nov 2025: Odisha’s Pritisimita Bhoi has brought glory to India by winning a gold medal in the girls’ weightlifting event at the Youth Asian Games being held in Bahrain. She not only clinched gold but also set new Asian and world records in her category.
Pritisimita competed in the 44 kg category, lifting 66 kg in snatch and 92 kg in clean and jerk, for a total of 158 kg, securing the top position. Her 92 kg lift in clean and jerk set a new world record, surpassing the previous record of 88 kg held by Wu Zhiheng of China.
Pritisimita broke Wu Zhiheng’s record on her second attempt (90 kg) and then surpassed her own record in the third attempt (92 kg), creating history.
She won a silver medal in the snatch event, gold in clean and jerk, and gold in the overall total, making India and Odisha proud.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Sports Minister Suryabanshi Suraj congratulated her on this outstanding achievement.
Pritisimita is trained by coach Bijay Sharma, and the Odisha Weightlifting Association — including President Er. Chittaranjan Das, General Secretary Gopal Krishna Das, and Vice Presidents Hariprasad Pattnayak and Janakiballabh Mishra — extended their heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to her for this remarkable success.
