Bhubaneswar, 23rd July 2025: In a significant decision aimed at empowering girl students, the Odisha Higher Education Department has proposed the establishment of five new women-only NCC battalions in the state.
A formal letter has been sent to the Director of Odisha NCC, outlining this initiative. Currently, Odisha has around 63,000 NCC cadets, and the state plans to increase this number to 90,000.
The new women battalions will help in achieving this expansion target while placing special emphasis on skill development and leadership training among female cadets.
The move is expected to boost discipline, confidence, and national service spirit in young women across colleges and universities in Odisha, giving them greater exposure and opportunities.
Establishing these new units will accelerate efforts to make NCC more inclusive and impactful, especially for women in rural and underserved areas.
