Odisha Shivers as Cold Wave Intensifies Across the State

Bhubaneswar, 15th Nov 2025:  Odisha is shivering under intense cold. Even before evening sets in, the chill is being strongly felt. In many places of northern interior Odisha, night temperatures have dropped 5 to 7 degrees below normal. Similarly, several locations in coastal Odisha and parts of interior districts are witnessing night temperatures 3 to 4 degrees below normal. Overall, most places across the state are experiencing temperatures around 3 degrees below normal.

The cold is particularly severe in Kandhamal district, known as the Kashmir of Odisha. In Daringbadi, the mercury has plunged to 8.5°C, disrupting normal life. On the 6th of this month, Daringbadi recorded 15°C, meaning the temperature has fallen by 6.5°C in just six days.

In G.Udayagiri, the minimum temperature was 8.7°C, while Phulbani recorded 10°C. Temperature below 10°C has also been reported from Raikia, Brahmanigaon, Dasingbadi, Kotagarh, Subarnagiri, Belghar, Tumudibandh, Baliguda, Khajurikhole, Barakhama, Balandapada and Saringia areas.

Due to intense cold, dense fog covered Kandhamal district until 10 AM today.
Sundargarh also experienced dense fog this morning, while moderate fog was reported in Kalahandi.

As temperatures continue to fall across the state, 15 cities have recorded night temperatures below 15°C.

  • Daringbadi & Phulbani: below 10°C
  • Rourkela: 10.5°C
  • Jharsuguda: 10.6°C
  • Keonjhar: 12.4°C
  • Sundargarh & Angul: 12.6°C
  • Koraput: 13.2°C
  • Balangir: 13.3°C
  • Bhawanipatna & Dhenkanal: 13.5°C
  • Subarnapur: 14.1°C
  • Sambalpur: 14.2°C
  • Jajpur: 14.6°C
  • Hirakud: 14.8°C

Twin cities Cuttack and Bhubaneswar also recorded 15°C.
Cuttack recorded 15.2°C, while Bhubaneswar stood at 15.5°C.
The entire state is experiencing minimum temperatures below 20°C, resulting in a widespread cold wave.

The cold spell is expected to continue for the next four days, with no significant change in night temperatures.
