Bhubaneswar, Electricity consumers in Odisha have received a major relief as there will be no increase in electricity tariffs for the financial year 2025-26. The Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) announced on Monday that electricity rates would remain unchanged for the coming financial year, ensuring that domestic consumers will not have to pay extra.
Additionally, OERC has imposed restrictions on private companies exploiting consumers under the guise of smart meter charges. Households consuming up to 2 kW of electricity per month were previously charged Rs60 as a meter rent. However, those using smart meters with a connected load of up to 2 kW will no longer have to pay this ₹60 monthly meter rent. Consumers using more than 2 kW will continue to pay the ₹60 meter rent.
To promote digital transactions, OERC has also made significant announcements. Consumers paying their electricity bills online will continue to receive a 4% rebate. Additionally, those opting for e-bills instead of paper bills will receive a ₹10 discount on their bill.
Revised Electricity Tariff Structure (Per Unit)
0-80 units: Rs2.90 per unit
81-100 units: Rs4.70 per unit
101-400 units: Rs5.70 per unit
Above 400 units: Rs6.10 per unit
Cold Storage Units: Rs1.60 per unit (reduced rate)
EV Charging: Reduced by Rs0.50 per unit
This decision ensures financial relief for consumers and encourages digital payments while keeping electricity costs stable across Odisha.
