Bhubaneswar, 28th July 2025: The Odisha government has made it easier for farmers to register for paddy procurement during the ongoing Kharif season, which started from July 19. According to Food Supplies and Welfare Minister Krushnachandra Patra, even if the agricultural land is in the name of the father or grandfather, their sons can now register as farmers, provided they are cultivating the land.
Previously, only the legal landholder could register, creating hurdles for actual cultivators. To eliminate this barrier and promote ease of registration, the government now allows:
✅ New Guidelines for Farmer Registration:
If land is in the name of the father or grandfather, sons who are genuinely cultivating it can register.
In the case of joint cultivation among brothers, one brother can register with a written consent letter (ସ୍ୱୀକୃତିନାମା) from the others.
The initiative aims to eliminate fake farmer registrations, which often cause problems during procurement and deprive real farmers of their due benefits.
The Minister emphasized that consent from the actual landowner (if not the cultivator) is mandatory, especially in cases involving sharecroppers or tenant farmers.
This reform is especially relevant in districts like Ganjam, Koraput, Jharsuguda, and Kendrapara, where such issues have been widely reported.
The administration has warned that strict action will be taken against fraudulent registrations. The government is also tightening verification procedures to ensure real farmers get the benefits, such as procurement payments and support services.
