Bhubaneswar, 28th July 2025:  Village and interior roads will be developed. Roads connecting panchayats and blocks will be blacktopped. Roads that have not yet been paved will be taken up for immediate improvement. For this purpose, the government has approved ₹2 crore per legislative constituency for two financial years. A separate allocation will be made for all 142 rural constituencies. In the first year, 20 roads will be renovated per constituency. The Rural Development Department has decided that the minimum estimate for each road should be ₹5 lakh.

Currently, the condition of many rural roads in Odisha is deplorable. As the state government is giving importance to transportation, people in rural areas are demanding better roads. Roads will be constructed on the recommendation of MLAs as well.

Village Road Development in 142 Constituencies

In areas where roads have not been renovated under any scheme so far, the roads will now be blacktopped. However, roads built under PMGSY (Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana), Mukhyamantri Sadak Yojana, or any other government schemes which are still under the five-year maintenance period will not be included in this project.

Before the construction work begins, engineers from the Rural Development Department will prepare a plan. The executive engineer will float tenders and oversee the execution. Priority will be given to maintaining the quality standards of the roads. The funds for this project will come from the department’s allocated budget.

The government has also decided that 50% of the proposed roads will be selected based on recommendations by local MLAs. The remaining 50% will be chosen by the Rural Development Department. Through this road development initiative, villagers will have better transportation access. It will become easier to reach schools, healthcare services, panchayat offices, and block offices. This is expected to bring about significant social and economic development in the rural areas of the state.
