Kotpad 9th January 2025  Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, also known as NRI Day, is celebrated annually on January 9 by the Government of India. This date marks the return of Mahatma Gandhi to India from South Africa on January 9, 1915. The celebration of this day began in 2003, and the idea of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was proposed by Shri Lakshmi Mall Singhvi. This occasion serves as a platform to discuss issues and concerns related to the Indian diaspora.

Theme and Importance

This year’s theme for Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is “Contribution of Overseas Indians to the Vision of a Developed India”. It emphasizes the significant role played by Non-Resident Indians in shaping a developed India, aligning with the government’s vision of a progressive nation. The event not only honors the achievements of overseas Indians but also explores ways in which they can contribute to India’s development in various sectors.
