Puri, 12th Nov 2025: Devotee of language and literature, and a distinguished politician, Shankarshan (Shankar) Parida is no more. Exhausted by the continuous journey of poetry and politics, and suffering from lung cancer, he fought a long battle with life before ultimately succumbing to death. He passed away at the age of 62 while undergoing treatment at AIIMS. Having been treated for a long time for cancer in Mumbai, he had recently been admitted to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar. Due to a critical health condition, he was again shifted to Bhubaneswar.
While admitted in the hospital, he had written his last poem on October 17, on the occasion of his final birthday. He was undergoing treatment in the ICU and passed away today at 12:30 PM.
His death has been mourned by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and numerous eminent figures from the political and literary worlds.
