No Specialist Doctor in Basta: Subasini Raises Alarm Over Healthcare Crisis

Baleswar: Specialist doctor positions remain vacant at the health centers in Basta, Baliapal, and Pratappur under the Basta constituency. Expressing concern over this issue, MLA Subasini Jena raised the matter in the Legislative Assembly, drawing the government’s attention to it.

During the Zero Hour of the Winter Session on December 11, she highlighted the difficulties faced by women due to the absence of gynecologists at these health centers. She expressed frustration that these vacancies have not been filled yet. She also mentioned that at Basta Hospital, a gynecologist is deputed only twice a week.

The MLA questioned when these vacant positions would be filled and also demanded the filling of vacant doctor positions at the district headquarters hospital. In response, the State Health and Family Welfare Minister, Mukesh Kumar Mahaling, stated that on February 12, the Odisha Public Service Commission had issued a notification for 5,248 junior doctors. He assured that specialist doctor positions would be filled soon. Until then, arrangements would be made to send a gynecologist on deputation to the Baliapal health center.
