Chandahandi ,23rd July 2025: For the past six months, Basudev Majhi, a poor resident of Banam Hul village under Dalbeda Bada Panchayat in Chandahandi block, has been bedridden due to a festering wound on his leg. His swollen thigh developed a painful sore, which continuously oozes pus. Unable to bear the pain, he has been confined to his bed for months.
Though he underwent treatment at both Nabarangpur and Dharamgarh hospitals, there has been no improvement, according to his family. The main obstacle to further treatment is lack of money.
Basudev’s family of three includes his wife and 19-year-old son. As a daily wage laborer, he was the sole breadwinner. With him now unable to work, the family is struggling to survive. They rely solely on the 5 kg of rice per head they receive from their government-issued ration card. “We are somehow surviving on rice and salt,” said Basudev.
The villagers have appealed to the district administration to provide urgent medical help. After contacting the BDO Chaina Gand, officials have promised to arrange necessary medical treatment and support services for Basudev soon.
