No Adequate Teachers at Government Ashram School, Gatangi Despite Adoption of ‘Kerala Model’ Teaching System

Baliguda, March 25: Even though students are being taught under the “Kerala Model” in smart classrooms, there is a shortage of required teachers, leading to dissatisfaction among students.
This is not news from an urban area. It is from the Government Ashram School at Gatangi under Sutra Panchayat in the remote region of Baliguda Block, Kandhamal district.
Although the school is located at the foothills of a hill, the campus has been beautifully developed through the personal efforts of Headmaster Tirthabasi Ghadai. The academic environment of the school is also of high quality.
This is the first school in the district where teaching is being conducted under the Kerala Model. As a result, students are happily studying while sitting comfortably on U-shaped benches.
A total of 170 students from pre-school (Shishu Vatika) to Class VIII are studying in the school, while 140 students are staying in the girls’ hostel. However, the entire teaching work is being managed by only two teachers.
Despite this shortage, due to the innovative teaching methods of the Headmaster, many students have achieved success every year by participating in various examinations and competitions.
However, complaints have been raised that the lack of adequate teachers in proportion to the number of students is causing difficulties in studies. The boarders and the Headmaster have stated that the school would progress further if the required number of teachers were appointed.
Now, all eyes are on when the administration will pay attention to this school.
