Patna, 22nd July 2025: With the Bihar Assembly elections approaching, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has made a major announcement aimed at the public. Starting August 1, each household in the state will receive 125 units of electricity per month free of cost, Nitish promised on Thursday. This means consumers will benefit from this scheme in their July electricity bills.

Nitish stated that his government has already been supplying electricity to consumers at affordable rates, and this decision will further ease the financial burden on them. This move is expected to benefit around 1.67 crore families in the state.

If Nitish’s party returns to power in the upcoming elections, he further promised that within the next three years, under the Kutir Jyoti Yojana, solar power systems will be installed on the rooftops of the poorest households among these beneficiaries.

When Nitish Kumar’s JD(U)-led government came to power in 2020, the state’s electricity production was just 750 megawatts. As a result, villagers lived most of the time in darkness, while urban areas received only about 7 to 8 hours of electricity per day. However, the situation has significantly improved now, with Bihar producing around 8,500 megawatts of electricity.
