Nabarangpur, Jan, 03:The New Year brings new possibilities for the district. Next year, land acquisition will be completed for the proposed medical college, sports complex, and Nabarangpur-Jaypur railway line, which will become a hub for Indravati tourism.
The district collector, Dr. Maheshwar Swain, stated that Bharatmala projects for road construction and redevelopment of Hili and Papadahandi Shaheed Minar will also receive a new look at a cost of ₹6 crore.
Currently, with the central and state BJP double-engine government in place, there is hope that these projects will be completed. Intellectuals in the district have expressed optimism.
The Nabarangpur-Jaypur railway line, which had been pending for over 10 years due to incomplete land acquisition, is now expected to be fully implemented, raising the hopes of the local residents.
Despite the Indravati river flowing through the district and the presence of three dams, agriculture faces challenges. While the district produces rice and maize extensively, farmers often struggle due to a lack of buyers. There is also ongoing dissatisfaction regarding district-level appointments.
Five major drinking water supply projects have been pending for the last six years. Additionally, there have been three changes in the district council leadership:
In BJD, MLA Manohar Randhari has become the president.
In BJP, senior leader Kunjbihari Dash is the president.
In Congress, district council member Dr. Lipika Majhi has taken the presidency.
While there are political differences among these three main parties, it remains to be seen what role they will play in the new year and what benefits they will bring to the district.
Regarding irrigation, there is no proper arrangement. Small irrigation projects were carried out in Kusumjhara, Bhaskel, and Puljhari, but water has not reached the fields properly. It is unclear when irrigation projects in Turi and Gunthat will begin.
