Nabarangpur,9th Oct 2025: : It has been announced that a new bridge will be constructed over the Indravati River near Nabarangpur. An amount of ₹38.77 crore has been approved for this project, and very soon the process will begin under the NH Kesinga Division.
On July 23, a news report titled “Indravati Bridge Weakens” estimated the cost of the project at ₹38.77 crore and informed the central government. Subsequently, the central government approved this amount. After transferring the project from the Jaipur NH High Division to Kesinga Division, the Kesinga Division Engineer-in-Chief from the district informed that land acquisition will begin soon.
A report was published, which caught the attention of human rights activist Anup Patra, as well as the Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Jairam Gadkari. Following this, under the direction of the central minister, the Kesinga Division Engineer-in-Chief submitted a report.
The Indravati Bridge connects Nabarangpur with the capital Bhubaneswar, various parts of Odisha, and neighboring states Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh. This bridge has weakened over time.
Since the Indravati Bridge is over 40 years old, cracks have developed on the bridge surface, and signs of rust have appeared. Even small rainfall causes waterlogging, resulting in frequent minor accidents. Daily, hundreds of goods-carrying trucks and passenger buses use this single Indravati Bridge.
Due to the bridge’s weakening condition, repeated demands have been made to take precautionary steps before any serious accident occurs. Additionally, the riverbanks of the Indravati are also being eroded on both sides.
