Bhubaneswar: The School and Mass Education Department of Odisha has issued guidelines for the formation of School Management Committees (SMC) or School Management and Development Committees (SMDC) in all schools of the state — from pre-primary (Shishu Vatika) to Class XII.

According to the guidelines:

In elementary schools, the School Management Committee will be formed with 15 members, where the Head Teacher will serve as the Chairperson, and one teacher from the school will be appointed as the Member Secretary.

In secondary schools, the committee will consist of 17 members. The Headmaster/Principal will act as the Chairperson, and one teacher will be designated as the Member Secretary.

In higher secondary schools, the committee will consist of 25 members, with the Principal/Headmaster as the Chairperson. A Vice Principal or senior PGT (Post Graduate Teacher) will serve as the Vice Chairperson or Member Secretary.

In schools where only Classes XI and XII are running (higher secondary-only institutions), the committee will have 22 members.

These guidelines aim to ensure structured participation and community involvement in the management and development of schools across Odisha.
