Bhubaneswar: Textbooks for students from Grade 1 to 8 will be changed. The new curriculum will be implemented from the 2026-27 academic year. After the implementation of NEP-2020, a committee has been formed to revise the syllabus. The proposed new syllabus for Grades 1 to 8 will place greater emphasis on language, culture, and heritage, according to School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Nanda Ganda.

A high-level task force had been formed earlier. Currently, a state steering committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Professor Nityananda Pradhan, former head of the Regional Institute of Education, Bhopal. This committee will prepare the state curriculum framework based on the National Curriculum Framework (NCF), keeping local contexts in mind. The committee has already held three meetings and the fourth meeting is scheduled to take place from March 26 to 30.

Additionally, the state government is considering forming a state-level committee to review the curriculum and textbooks.

Age Limit Controversy for Grade 1 Enrollment

According to reports, the Odisha government plans to introduce new textbooks for Grades 1 to 8 alongside NCERT-prepared books following the national curriculum framework in the upcoming academic year. Previously, this initiative was overseen by the Odisha Development Commissioner.

On the other hand, a controversy has arisen regarding the age limit for Grade 1 enrollment in the state, sparking reactions.
