Jeypore, Dec, 03: The path has been cleared for Vikramdev University’s new campus! A patta (land deed) for 40 acres of land identified in Randapalli was handed over on Monday by Additional Tahsildar Chittaranjan Pattnayak to University Registrar Maheshwar Nayak.
Once the patta is formalized and the DPR (Detailed Project Report) is approved, construction work on the new campus is expected to begin soon. The 40 acres of government revenue land in Randapalli mauza of Jeypore Tahsil had been earmarked for the new campus.
Earlier, on August 30, a letter was sent to the RDC, Brahmapur South Division regarding the land transfer by the district administration and revenue department. After instructions from the revenue department to the Koraput District Collector for approval, the land transfer process was expedited.
The record of the land transfer was submitted to the RMC (Revenue Monitoring Cell). A copy of this record was sent to the State Higher Education Department, the Deputy Commissioner of Higher Education, the Jeypore Sub-Collector, the Tahsildar, and the University Registrar. Now, after registration in the university’s name, work on establishing the new campus will commence.
Two years ago, for the new campus, 73 acres of government land near the Government Polytechnic College in Randapalli was initially identified. After verification, this was reduced to 70 acres, including 40 acres suitable for the university and 30 acres of grazing land, where forest clearance was pending, causing delays in the transfer process.
After a meeting in which revenue department officials approved the 40-acre portion for the university, the State Higher Education Department, along with the Commissioner, discussed faculty appointments, construction of the new campus, and research activities during a visit to the university on April 10. Recommendations were also given to increase seat capacity in PG, degree, and self-finance courses.
It was concluded that 70 acres of land are required for the new campus, and authorities were instructed to take further steps accordingly.
