Bhubaneswar, Jan, 20:: Based on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the textbook framework for students from Classes I to VIII has been changed. The names of the books have been revised and their content has also been updated.

Along with this, several new subjects have been included. From Class III, students will be taught art education and physical education. For this purpose, separate books on sports and yoga have been prepared. Similarly, vocational education has been included from Class VI.

In total, 55 textbooks have been developed for Classes I to VIII. These new textbooks will be introduced from the next academic year, 2026–27. Printing of the books has already begun. The list of NEP 2020-based textbooks has also been sent to schools.
According to the Odisha Curriculum Framework (OCF-S) 2025, textbooks have been developed for Classes I to VIII.

As per available information, Class I students will study two books — Jhulana-1 (Odia) and Ganit Khela (Mathematics).

For Class II, Jhulana-2 (Odia) and Maja Majare Ganit (Mathematics) have been prepared.

Class III students will study six books:
Bhasha Mahaj-1 (Odia)
Pallavi (English)
Ganit Mela (Mathematics)
Ama Bichitra Biswa (Environmental Studies)
Indradhanu (Art Education)
Khela O Yoga (Physical Education)

Similarly, Class IV students will study Bhasha Mahak-2 (Odia), Pallavi (English), Ganit Mela, Ama Bichitra Biswa, Indradhanu (Art), and Khela O Yoga (Physical Education).
Class V students will study Bhasha Mahak-3 (Odia), Pallavi (English), Ganit Mela, Ama Bichitra Biswa, Nabarasa (Art), and Khela O Yoga (Physical Education).

From Classes VI to VIII (upper primary), 11 textbooks have been developed for each class, including vocational education, physical education, and art education.

For Class VI, the textbooks include:
Sahitya Sudha (Odia)
Justin (English)
Kalika (Hindi)
Sanskrit Kalika Part-1 (Sanskrit)
Talas (Urdu)
Ganit Prakash (Mathematics)
Jijnasa (Science)
Social Science Studies: India and Our Earth
Kaushal Bodh (Vocational Education)
Kala Kunj (Art Education)
Khela Shiksha (Physical Education)
In Class VII, the literature book is titled Sahitya Suman and the art book is titled Kalakriti.

In Class VIII, the literature book is titled Sahitya Surabhi and the art book is titled Kriti. The remaining nine subject book names are the same as those of Class VI.

It is noteworthy that teachers will be given five-day training to teach under the new textbook framework. A total of 85,046 primary teachers and 81,948 upper primary teachers will receive training — altogether 1,66,964 teachers.

The teacher training modules have been developed by TE & SCERT. Master trainers from districts will be trained by TE & SCERT in different zones.
