Nabarangpur,26th July 2025: The Chief Minister’s Agriculture Entrepreneur Scheme has proven to be a major success in creating employment opportunities for rural youth and women. One shining example is Jharnna Das Mahapatra, a woman agricultural entrepreneur from Salpa village under Digi panchayat, Tentulikhunti block in Nabarangpur district, who has become an inspiration for others through her hard work and determination.

Jharnna applied for a broiler poultry farm under the scheme via the Sugam Portal. With the support of the block and district livestock officials and after due approval from the Collector, she was able to launch her venture.

She set up a modern poultry farm on 1.5 acres of land, equipped to house 21,000 birds at a time. With an investment ofRs 1.47 crore, which included a bank loan of Rs 95 lakh and government subsidy of Rs 1 crore (eligible for up to 50% subsidy), she began operations. The financial and technical support enabled her to quickly scale the business.

Jharnna has partnered with Indian Broiler for operational support. The company supplies chicks at Rs 35 per bird and pays between Rs 13 and Rs 19 per kilogram of body weight upon sale. Under close supervision, birds gain weight rapidly, typically between 1–2 kg within 40 days, generating a profit of Rs 30–Rs 40 per bird.

Within just two months, her farm has reportedly generated a revenue ofRs 8 lakh. A supervisor has been appointed to monitor feed and health routines during different growth stages (10–12, 12–25, and 25–40 days). Indian Broiler procures the mature birds based on market demand through its trading network.

Jharnna’s son, Ishan Mahapatra, who helps manage the farm, noted that consistent demand and streamlined marketing support from Indian Broiler has ensured stability in their business. He emphasized that the government’s assistance and scheme support have played a crucial role in their journey.

Jharnna Das Mahapatra stands today as a symbol of rural entrepreneurship, showing that with opportunity, guidance, and determination, self-reliance is within reach. Her success story has become a milestone in Odisha’s agricultural entrepreneurship history, and serves as an encouragement for many aspiring agro-entrepreneurs.
