Nabarangpur Officials Meet Seed Producers, Stress Crackdown on Unauthorized Seed Sellers

Nabarangpur,: An urgent meeting was held at the office of the District Chief Agriculture Officer, Nabarangpur, with representatives of certified seed-producing companies. At the meeting, along with 35 representatives of seed companies, District Chief Agriculture Officer’s representative Pranay Kumar Mantri, Agriculture District Officer Nabarangpur 3 Papadahandi, Umarikot, and Planning Officers were present.

During the meeting, for the ongoing Kharif season 2025, emphasis was given on supplying farmers with quality seeds from certified seed companies and delivering certified seeds and pesticides on time. Since paddy and maize are the main crops in the district, and farmers have a keen interest in certified seeds of Shankar varieties, the seed supply system was finalized keeping farmers’ interests in mind.

It was strictly decided that seeds from unauthorized companies will not be sold under any circumstances.

Instructions were issued to ensure timely delivery of seeds to farmers at affordable prices. In this regard, the District Collector Dr. Shubhankar stated that if any irregularities are noticed anywhere, strict action will be taken immediately.

For the current Kharif season, it is targeted that 69,000 hectares of Shankar variety maize and 45,000 hectares of Shankar variety paddy will be cultivated.

Following the directions of certified company officials, enforcement squads have been formed at district and block levels. These squads have the authority to conduct surprise inspections at any store selling seeds, pesticides, or insecticides without proper authorization, and take necessary legal action immediately.
