Nabarangpur, 5th Nov 2025:The 55-kilometer stretch from Nabarangpur to Koksara along National Highway 201 will be renovated and widened under a combined plan with the Biju Expressway, at an estimated cost of around ₹200 crore. This development will improve connectivity to western Odisha as well as provide a better route to the neighboring state capital Raipur in Chhattisgarh and the Odisha capital Bhubaneswar.
For this project, District Collector Dr. Maheshwar Swain discussed the tender process and land acquisition progress with SDO of Nabarangpur NH Division, Surya Chhataria. The tendering process has been completed.
The 55-kilometer road construction will cover the stretch from Koksara-Ambapani in Kalahandi district, passing through Ambapani Ghati, to Maidalpur, Papadahandi, and Patramunda in Nabarangpur district. Currently, the road width is 7 meters, but after widening, it will become 10 meters. For this expansion, 65 hectares of land will be acquired, of which 30 hectares are government land.
Additionally, trees along the road will be cut and electric poles relocated, according to the SDO. The construction agency awarded the project will be responsible for 5 years of maintenance. This stretch of road had been renovated less than 10 years ago, but the increasing traffic, including heavy vehicles and fast-moving buses, necessitates further expansion.
Moreover, culverts between Papadahandi and Ambapani Ghati will be strengthened. The road widening will also help reduce minor and major accidents at black spots and other junctions, the District Collector said.
