Nabarangpur Farmer Earns Rs 8 Lakhs in 2 Months Through Broiler Farming

Nabarangpur, 17 July : By running a broiler poultry farm, a family has earned Rs 8 lakhs in just 2 months. The Mukhyamantri Krushi Udyogi Yojana has opened up a path to income. “If you have the will, opportunities will come,” says Jharana Dash Mahapatra and her son Ishan Mahapatra of Salpa village under Digi Panchayat, Tentulikhunti Block, Nabarangpur district, who have benefited from government support.

According to reports, Jharana Dash Mahapatra had applied for a broiler poultry farming unit under the Mukhyamantri Krushi Udyogi Yojana through the SUGAM portal. The block veterinary officer submitted the proposal to the district veterinary officer, and with the district collector’s approval, the broiler unit was launched.

They built a modern broiler farm on 1.5 acres of land, capable of housing 21,000 birds, using modern technical know-how. The farm was established with an investment of ₹1.47 crore, supported by the Epical company and bank loans of around ₹95 lakh. They are also eligible for 50% subsidy on the fixed capital (₹1 crore).

To further streamline operations and grow the business, they have partnered with Indian Broiler, which supplies chicks at ₹35 each and provides technical support. A dedicated supervisor oversees food, health care, and growth monitoring.

Feeding cycles are monitored in 3 phases:

Days 1–10

Days 12–25

Days 25–40

Indian Broiler buys back the chickens at rates ranging from ₹13 to ₹19 per kg, depending on market conditions. Within one month, a chicken can gain 1–2 kilograms, yielding a profit of ₹30 to ₹40 per bird. This has enabled the farm to generate ₹8 lakh in profit over just two months.

Ishan said that Indian Broiler procures the birds based on trading market demand, ensuring a steady sales channel.
