Nabarangpur District Observes Mass Plantation Under “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”

Nabarangpur, 19th Sept 2025:  In line with the nationwide initiative “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, launched by the Central Government last year for environmental protection, the second edition of the campaign will witness the plantation of 75 lakh trees in a single day across Odisha on 17th September 2025. Accordingly, the district administration of Nabarangpur has taken all necessary preparations.

Participation Across All Sectors

On this day, all educational institutions, village panchayats, block offices, government and semi-government institutions, and various other places will participate in the drive. Teachers, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, members of self-help groups, forest protection committees, voluntary organizations, women, youth, public representatives, government employees, and the general public will take part in the plantation activity.

Tree Allocation by Department

  • Different government departments have been assigned targets:
  • Panchayati Raj Department: 94,500 saplings (500 per GP)
  • Forest & Environment Department: 80,000 saplings
  • District Education Department: 45,685 saplings for schools
  • ITDA: 6,440 saplings
  • Mega Lift Irrigation Project: 10,000 saplings
  • CRPF 12th Battalion: 5,000 saplings
  • District Welfare Department: 2,000 saplings for schools
  • NGOs: 4,585 saplings
  • Horticulture Department: 10,000 saplings
  • Soil Conservation Department: 5,000 saplings
  • Total Plantation Target: 2,63,210 Trees

These saplings have been distributed by the Horticulture Department and are to be planted and geo-tagged with photos uploaded on the Meri Life Portal.

Coordination & Supervision

A district-level review meeting was conducted under the chairmanship of District Collector Dr. Maheshwar Swain. Participants included:

  • CEO of Zilla Parishad
  • DFO (Divisional Forest Officer)
  • Deputy Director of Horticulture
  • Chief District Agriculture Officer
  • PA, ITDA
  • Executive Engineer, Mega Lift Irrigation
  • District I&PR Officer
  • All BDOs

A virtual meeting was also held with the Hon’ble Chief Minister and Chief Secretary of Odisha to ensure smooth coordination.

Types of Trees

The campaign emphasizes planting fruit-bearing and medicinal plants such as:

Guava (Dalim)

Karanja

Tamarind (Tentuli)

Neem

Arjuna
…and other species.

The drive will be conducted from sunrise to sunset on the designated day.

Post-Plantation Care

The planted trees will be protected and regularly monitored for the next three years to ensure their survival and growth.

Chief Minister’s Appeal

Hon’ble Chief Minister Mohal Charan Majhi has appealed to everyone to actively participate in this noble campaign. Citizens are encouraged to upload plantation photos and selfies to the Meri Life Portal and various social media platforms to promote awareness.

Media Involvement

During a media briefing today, the District Collectory urged all journalists and media personnel to widely cover the event and actively participate in this mass plantation drive.
