Malkangiri,11th Sept 2025: A review meeting was held in the Local District Council conference room under the chairmanship of Nabarangpur MP Engr. Balabhadra Majhi. At the meeting, District Collector Somesh Kumar Upadhyay welcomed everyone and instructed officials to present the progress of development works from various departments.
MP Majhi directed the officials to prepare an action plan with clear targets for the upcoming financial year 2029. Special emphasis was given to poverty alleviation and reducing the number of bonded laborers in the district, and officials were instructed to take necessary measures accordingly.
The District Fisheries Officer was directed to increase fish farming and production capacity. Further, the Lead Bank Manager was instructed to set targets to ensure maximum inclusion of people under the Prime Minister’s Jeevan Jyoti Insurance Scheme.
Previously, in the Swabhiman area, which was once abandoned and known for Ganjei (millet) cultivation, the land is very fertile. Therefore, the Horticulture and Agriculture Departments were directed to promote vegetable and fruit cultivation to encourage the locals.
Since the district has many rivers and canals, the Irrigation Department was directed to take steps for effective utilization of water resources.
The Animal Husbandry Department was instructed to focus on making people economically self-reliant through poultry, goat farming, and cattle rearing.
The MP discussed fertilizer issues, soil testing of agricultural land, and provision of farmer health cards with agriculture officials. He also mentioned the need to cooperate with SHG (Self Help Group) members who are making significant progress so they can become prosperous like “Lakshapati Didi” (a term indicating wealthy women SHG members). Mission Shakti Department was advised to support such efforts.
Discussions were also held on matters like road and bridge construction and compensation for land acquisition for railway projects.
