Koraput, 9th Aug 2025: Koraput MLA Raghuram Mach has urged the central government to approve the long-pending Koraput bypass road project, which local residents have been demanding for the past 25 years.
During his visit to New Delhi, the MLA met with Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, requesting them to take necessary steps for early approval and funding of the project.
Specifically, the proposal is for a bypass road from Mendaguda to Kharaguda Chhak, along National Highway 26, which would help decongest the urban area of Koraput. Mach submitted a detailed letter with the project map, requesting the Centre to allocate adequate funds and prioritize the initiative.
Currently, the lack of a bypass forces heavy vehicles to pass through municipal zones and the district headquarters, causing congestion and disruption. Mach emphasized that the bypass would accelerate regional development and alleviate the traffic burden.
BJP senior leader Kaliram Majhi accompanied the MLA during the meeting and submission of the demand letter.
