Jeypore, 28th Aug 2025: In Odaput village of Dashmantapur block, Koraput district, residents have been facing a severe water contamination problem for the past few days. It is estimated that the use of contaminated water may have caused a widespread outbreak of illness in the village.
One person has already died, and several others have been hospitalized due to waterborne diseases. To assess the situation, Laxmipur MLA Pabitra Saunta visited Odaput village and discussed the issue with doctors and villagers to understand the cause of the outbreak.
Currently, two of the village’s water supply taps are working, while the third is non-functional. A medical team has been stationed in the village to treat affected residents, providing treatment along with halogen tablets and ORS. Efforts are being made to ensure the water is bleached and made safe for consumption.
Despite the seriousness of the situation, district-level officials had not visited the village during the past week, which prompted MLA Pabitra Saunta to express dissatisfaction and criticize the neglect by the district administration.
