Bhubaneswar, 22nd July 2025: ‘Mission LiFE’ (Lifestyle for Environment) will soon be included in the school curriculum. To educate students about environmental protection and climate change, preliminary discussions have been held between senior officials of the Union Ministry of Education and the Union Ministry of Forest, Environment, and Climate Change.
The two ministries aim to create a mass movement among over 300 million students across 1.47 lakh schools through this initiative.
In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, a meeting was held in New Delhi today between Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav to work on integrating Mission LiFE into school education for a sustainable future.
Minister Pradhan emphasized that the National Education Policy (NEP) lays special focus on incorporating environmental awareness and climate change education into the school syllabus. As part of this, various programs and campaigns — beginning from pre-primary (Balvatika) level — have been promoting environmental protection as part of the learning process.
By including Mission LiFE in the curriculum, over 30 crore students will be part of this mass movement. This will help promote sustainable lifestyle choices, as well as encourage an eco-friendly mindset and behavior. Acknowledging this, Mr. Pradhan thanked both ministries for the initiative.
He also suggested that climate education at the grassroots level, gamification and digital approaches to environmental learning, and the training of educators be actively promoted. He recommended developing a teacher handbook based on Mission LiFE principles, and proposed that DIETs (District Institutes of Education and Training) be involved in integrating this into the credit framework. This would further encourage eco-conscious behavior among students and all stakeholders.
