Mismanagement Cripples MV-66 Livestock Centre Operations

Malkangiri , 8th Aug 2025: The livestock office located in MV-66 village under Kalimela block of Malkangiri district is reportedly in a state of disarray. Though the office is situated alongside the main road, it remains closed most of the time, causing significant inconvenience to locals who rely on it for the treatment of their domestic animals.

According to reports, more than 30,000 people from five panchayats, including Gampakonda, depend on this livestock office for veterinary services. However, the office remains shut regularly, and departmental officials are reportedly absent. As a result, people are facing various difficulties in accessing veterinary care.

Due to the closure of the office for months at a stretch, locals are forced to spend thousands of rupees to call private veterinarians for the treatment of cattle, goats, and dogs. Consequently, many are unable to afford the necessary care for their animals.

Local animal rearers have alleged that the unavailability of treatment has led to frequent deaths of domesticated animals across the region. They also claim that due to the continued absence of the appointed veterinary doctor, farmers are being deprived of various government benefits related to livestock development.

In light of the situation, residents of MV-66 village under the Gampakonda panchayat are demanding immediate operationalization of the livestock office and strict action against the negligent departmental officials responsible for the mismanagement.
