Nabarangpur: A group of transgender individuals from Kalahandi district has reportedly entered Umerkote area in Nabarangpur district, particularly places like Jharigaon and Raighar, where they have been allegedly collecting donations forcibly in local markets and shops, and also involved in illegal activities.
Concerned about this situation, Sharmistha Deo, a senior advisor and member of the Nabarangpur District Transgender Association, along with association members, held a discussion with Minister Mr. Nityananda Gond.
They raised the issue before the Nabarangpur district administration, stating that these transgender individuals from Kalahandi are not registered residents of Nabarangpur and urged for an investigation into their activities. The association demanded that transgenders should stay in their respective districts and fulfill their responsibilities there.
Sharmistha Deo submitted a written memorandum to the Minister, urging appropriate action. In response, Minister Gond assured them that the matter would be thoroughly investigated in the coming days and necessary steps would be taken accordingly.
The association also revealed that some non-transgender individuals are falsely identifying themselves as transgenders and forming a fake association under the name of Umerkote Transgender Association. They requested a thorough inquiry into the matter to expose the truth.
Present at today’s meeting were Kajol Kinnar (President of the Association), Chumuki Kinnar (Secretary), and members Mandira Nayak, Satyabati Nayak, and Shefali Bebarva, along with many other transgender members who cooperated in the program.
