Jeypore, 31st Oct 2025:  At the Jeypore Shramik Karmachari Bhavan in Koraput district, the 82nd memorial meeting of Bhagavati Charan Panigrahi, founder of the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Nabajuga Sahitya Sansad, was held under the chairmanship of Yudhishthir Raul.

After floral tributes were offered before the photo portrait of Bhagavati Charan Panigrahi, state executive committee member Mr. Mahanti spoke about his life and literary contributions. District secretary Ramkrishna Das presented the editorial report, followed by state committee member B. Bijay Jena, who shared a report on the national conference of the CPI.

The meeting called upon all local party branches to prepare for mass movements and public awareness campaigns addressing the problems of workers, farmers, students, youth, daily wage earners, and marginalized communities.

Since Narendra Modi’s BJP government—the political wing of the RSS—came to power at the Centre in 2014, it has, the speakers said, been systematically undermining the Constitution and constitutional institutions, while implementing the RSS’s ideological agenda. Rising prices, increasing unemployment, and religious intolerance are being used to divert public attention and create social divisions.

The police recruitment scam in Odisha was cited as a recent example of corruption. The government, while proposing a 90-hour work week, was also criticized for legalizing night shifts for women workers despite growing cases of violence against them. It was further alleged that natural resources and mines are being handed over to a few industrialists such as Adani and Ambani, while atrocities against Adivasis and Dalits are on the rise.

The meeting resolved to discuss these issues at the branch level and to launch grassroots movements across all zones of the district by November 15. Starting today, the CPI’s membership renewal and new membership drive have begun.

It was also announced that 500 workers from Koraput district will participate in the centenary celebrations of the CPI, scheduled for December 21.

Prominent participants in the discussion included Budra Badanayak, Lichan Muduli, Mita Jani, Sunita Nag, Narasingha Kumar, and Uttam Mallik.
