Baripada, 10th Oct 2025:  Two young men from Mayurbhanj district have embarked on a visit to Sri Lanka with the mission of promoting the various tourist destinations of Mayurbhanj. Over the course of a week, they are actively spreading awareness about Odisha’s tourism potential across different locations in Sri Lanka, encouraging foreign tourists to visit Odisha.

The two youths, Kumaresh Nayak and Nihar Ranjan Nanda, are conducting a campaign holding banners of Odisha Tourism in cities like Colombo (the capital of Sri Lanka), Galle, Mirissa, Matara, Ella, Nanu Oya, Nuwara Eliya, the historical city of Kandy—which preserves the relic of Lord Buddha’s tooth, Dambulla, the ancient city of Sigiriya (believed to be a remnant of Ravana’s kingdom), and the Lion’s Rock.

Apart from engaging with locals, they are also interacting with tourists from countries such as Switzerland, South Korea, New Zealand, Russia, Japan, and England, discussing the tourism opportunities in Odisha.

During their campaign, they are highlighting the cultural and historical connections between Sri Lanka and Odisha—such as the relic of Lord Buddha’s tooth, which is now in Kandy but was once gifted by the ancient Kalinga kingdom (now Odisha). They are also sharing information about:

  • Over 100 Buddhist ruins scattered across Odisha
  • The world-famous Jagannath Temple and the Rath Yatra
  • Asia’s largest brackish water lagoon – Chilika Lake
  • The Similipal Biosphere Reserve, home to multiple waterfalls,
  • The rare melanistic tiger, and
  • The scenic Barehipani waterfall, among other destinations.

Through this effort, they are not only spreading awareness about Odisha’s rich cultural and natural heritage but also extending invitations to foreign tourists to come and experience the land of their birth—Odisha and Mayurbhanj—for themselves.
